CAIRO – 16 July 2017: Demba Diop stadium in Senegal saw 8 people dead at the League Cup final on July 15.

In a match between Stade De Mbour and Union Sportive Ouakam in Senegal 8 people died due to rival supporters fighting against each other.

According to the BBC, the police had to use tear gas which caused the wall in the stadium to collapse leading to the death of eight people. The fans were seen throwing stones at each other and the police had to take action.

Reporting from Senegalese news Agency APS, ambulances and firefighters entered the stadium to save the people.

Cheikh Diop, who was at the stadium, said to AFP, “All of a sudden when the wall fell; we knew exactly that some of our own had lost their lives because the wall fell directly onto people."

It was reported by Senegalese authorities that a young girl was among the dead and 49 people were injured.
