Muguruza destroyed Venus Williams dream to win the title – Wimbledon Twitter Account
CAIRO –15 July 2017: Spanish tennis champion Garbine Muguruza defeated Venus Williams 2-0 to win her first Wimbledon title. Muguruza won the match 7-5, 6-0 on Saturday.
"I had I think the hardest match today against Venus," Muguruza told reporters after the final.
Muguruza, 23 years old, praised her opponent in the final, Venus Williams, saying, “She is such an incredible player; I grew up watching her play. It is incredible to play her in the final. She was definitely an inspiration, and it's incredible to play her here."
Venus Williams congratulated Muguruza after losing the match, saying, “Congratulations Garbine. Amazing. I know how hard you work, and I'm sure this means so much to you and your family. Well done today; beautiful,” Muguruza said, adding, “Two years ago, I lost in the final here to Serena. She said maybe one day I will win. So here I am.”
Muguruza won her first Wimbledon title after losing her first final in 2015 against Venus’ younger sister, Serena Williams.
