Handball: The Pharaohs reach 2023 IHF World Cup

CAIRO - 16 July 2022: Egypt men's handball team secured their place in the 2023 IHF Men's World Cup, to be held in Poland and Sweden, in January. 

 

The Pharaohs reached the World Cup after advancing to the semi-finals of the African competition, being held in Egypt, with a dominant win over Algeria. 

 

The competition's semi-finalists, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and Cape Verde will represent Africa in the World Cup alongside the winner of the fifth position. 

 

Egypt reached the semi-finals after a dominant 34-19 victory over Algeria, sending a strong message that The Pharaohs are ready to defend their title. 

 

"We are taking the competition a step by step. We defeated Algeria, one of top teams in the continent, and we will fight to advance from the semi-finals and win the title." Ahmed El Ahmar, Egypt national team captain, said.  

 

Egypt will face Tunisia on Saturday night in the semi-finals in a tough clash and the home team is expecting a massive support from the Egyptian fans. 

 

El Ahmar added "Our fans are unbelievable and they give us the support that we need. They made the difference against Algeria and we are sure they will be behind the team in the semi-finals."
