CAIRO - 14 June 2022: Egypt men's handball national team reached the quarter-finals of the African Championship as the leaders of Group A and they will face Group B runner-up Algeria in the semi-finals on Friday night.
The Pharaohs had a strong start to the competition with two dominant victories in the group stage over Cameroon and Morocco but the Egyptian players know that everything will be different in the knockout stage.
"We had a good game against Morocco and we are happy to be in the quarter-finals. We put on a strong performance in the group stage and we will fight to maintain this level in the knockout stage." Yehia Khaled, who was awarded the Man of The Match award against Morocco, said after the game.
In the quarter-finals, Egypt, the defending champions of the competition, will face Algeria, one of the most successful nations in the history of handball in Africa.
The Algerians, who have won seven titles in the competition, are struggling this year and they finished second in the group behind Guinea, who features in the competition for the third time in history.
"I am happy that we are in the quarter-finals. We will face Algeria and we know it will be a tough match but we will do our best to win the game." Roberto Parrondo, Egypt's coach, stated after the victory over Morocco.
