CAIRO - 7 July 2022: We are four days away from the 2022 African Handball Championship, which Cairo hosts between 11 and 18 July 2022.
The Egyptian fans will be back in full capacity to the arenas for the first time since the COVID-19 outbreak and Yehia Khaled, Egypt national team star, believes that the fans' presence will be a massive boost to the national team's chances of winning the title.
"I have never played in packed arenas in Egypt. I can not wait to meet our fans and feel their support in the African championship." Yehia told Filgoal.
The Pharaohs are the defending champions and they have a big chance to win back-to-back titles for the first time since 1992 as the Pharaohs go into the competition as favourites after two successful years on the international level.
Tunisia was drawn in Group C, which means that Egypt and Tunisia could meet in the semi-finals if they managed to reach the second round as group leaders and advanced through the quarter-finals.
"The last 20 years in African handball have been dominated by Egypt and Tunisia. We won the title in 2020 after defeating them in the final in Tunisia but we did not face eachother since then. It will be a tough clash if we met in the semis." Khaled added.
Egypt plays in Group A alongside Morocco and Cameroon and they will open the competition against Cameroon at Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall.
