CAIRO - 7 July 2022: All the eyes will be on Cairo International Stadium on Thursday night as the first edition of the EPL Cup will be wrapped up with a clash between Ghazl El Mahalla and Future in the competition's final.
Future have a chance to lift the first-ever trophy in the club's history while the Delta giants, Ghazl El Mahalla, hope to add a trophy to their cabinet for the first time since winning the 1994 Football Federation Trophy.
El Mahalla reached the final after defeating Ismaily on penalties after a thrilling 2-2 draw in the 120 minutes while Future's route was easier after a comfortable 2-0 win over Enppi in the semi-finals.
Gil Manzano, one of the top referees in Spain, will take charge of the game, which is expected to attract thousands of El Mahalla fans.
El Mahalla, one of only seven teams to win the league, does not have a successful history after making it to the final as they never lifted the Egyptian Cup trophy despite featuring in the competition's final on six occasions. El Mahalla also lost the CAF Champions League final in 1974 and the Egyptian Super Cup final in 2001.
"We want to make history for El Mahalla. I was on the pitch when we won our last title in 1994 and I was also part of the team when we lost two cup finals and the Super Cup final but I have much confidence that we will win this time. We will face a big team but we will fight to return home with the trophy in the bag." Mostafa Abdo, El Mahalla's head coach, stated.
The game starts at 9:30 PM.
