CAIRO -10 June 2022: The Egyptian national team hit a rock bottom on Thursday night in Malawi after losing to Ethiopia 2-0 on Matchday 2 of AFCON qualifiers.
The Pharaohs, who played their second official game under Ehab Galal, were totally outplayed by a team that appeared only two times in the Africa Cup of Nations since 1982.
"We had a bad game and the bad condition of the pitch affected our performance. We did not start well and suffered in the first half but our performance was better in the second half. We are trying to play a different style of football and we need more time to improve." Galal said after the game.
The coach is facing a storm of criticism which extended to the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) board after their decision to put an end to the era of Carlos Queiroz, who lost the AFCON title and the World Cup playoffs on penalties and then decided to appoint an inexperienced manager.
There are huge rumours that the friendly game against South Korea on 14 June will be Galal's last game as the manager of the Egyptian national team.
The EFA board members held an urgent meeting after the game and the coach's future will be decided in the upcoming hours.
