CAIRO –14 July 2017: American tennis player Venus Williams reached the Wimbledon finals on Thursday for the ninth time in her career after defeating Johanna Conta, Britain's first female player to reach the semi-final in 39 years.
The 37-year-old Williams, ranked 10 globally, beat Conta, ranked sixth, by 6-4 6-2 to become the oldest female player to reach the final in 23 years. The American player will face Spaniard Garbiñe Muguruza after she defeated the Slovakian Magdalena Rybarikova in the other semi-final game.
Williams, the current world champion, holds five Wimbledon titles and has won the doubles competitions six times with her sister Serena Williams, who is absent from Wimbledon due to her pregnancy.
