CAIRO, 22 May 2022: The Confederation of African Football announced the names of the referees for the final match of the African Champions League for the current season 2021/2022.
Al-Ahly will play Wydad in the Champions League final, in the match that will be held at Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco.
The Confederation of African Football chose the South African referee, Victor Gomez, to manage the match.
The referee team for the Champions League final is as follows:
Victor Gomes (South Africa) - Referee
Achille Soila (South Africa) - Assistant Referee
Soro Fatsuni (Lesotho) - Assistant Referee
Helder Martinez (Angola) - Fourth official
Bamlak Tesema (Ethiopia) - video referee
Mohamed Abdullah Ibrahim (Sudan) - Senior Video Assistant Referee
Haitham Kirat (Tunisia) - Second Video Assistant Referee
Gomez had previously managed the Al-Ahly and Wydad match in the second leg of the 2020 CAF Champions League semi-final, which ended with Al-Ahly winning 3-1.
Gomez managed the second leg of the Champions League semi-final this season between Wydad and Petro Atletico, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw, becoming his second with the Moroccan team after meeting Al-Ahly.
In arbitration, Gomez was present in 8 previous matches for Al-Ahly, Al-Ahly won 5 and lost 3, all of them in the African Champions League, most notably the victory over Etoile du Sahel 6-2 and Tunisian Esperance 1-0 in the first leg of the semi-finals last season.
The South African has managed 21 games in all competitions this season (African Champions League - Saudi League - South African League - South African Cup - African Nations Cup) and has shown 78 yellow cards and 4 red cards, and awarded 8 penalties.
