CAIRO, 7 February 2022: Ashraf Sobhi, the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, sent a message to the players of the Egyptian national team after losing the African Nations Cup final.
Egypt lost the African Nations Cup final to Senegal on penalties, after a negative tie during the match.
Ashraf Sobhi told the players in the dressing room after the match: "It's championship and it's over. We have two matches (World Cup qualifiers) and we cannot give up our rights. I repeat, we will not give up our rights. It is not over, and God willing, we will be stronger."
"From the beginning, we only wanted to show our best, however, we played three finals against Cote d'Ivoire, Morocco and Cameroon. No one has performed the same and this is a difficult path but you."
The Minister of Sports concluded, "What happened will not break us. We will be sad, but we will rise and come back stronger. We have the World Cup qualifiers ahead, and now we have a team that we can be proud of."
Egypt will meet Senegal again in mid-March, in two home and away matches in the final stage of the African continent's qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup.
