Hamdy, Fattouh Start against Ivory Coast

CAIRO-26 January 2022: Egypt national team head coach, Carlos Queiroz, announced the team’s starting line-up for the AFCON round of 16 clash against Ivory Coast.

Ahmed Fattouh, the team’s starting left back, returned to the team after missing the last two matches for injury and he will form the defensive line with Ahmed Hegazi, Mohamed Abdelmonem and Omar Kamal.

The Pharaohs’ defensive line was massively hit by injuries as three starting defenders, Akram Tawfik, Mahmoud Hamdy El Wensh and Fattouh, suffered injuries in the first two matches in the competition.

Queiroz boosted the midfield with Hamdy Fathy, who will start alongside the team’s veterans Mohamed Elneny and Amr El Soulia.

Here is Egypt’s Starting Line-up for the game: Mohamed El Shenawy, Ahmed Hegazi, Mohamed Abdelmonem, Ahmed Fattouh, Omar Kamal, Hamdy Fathy, Mohamed Elneny, Amr El Soulia, Omar Marmoush, Mohamed Salah and Mostafa Mohamed.

The Egyptians know how to handle the Elephants in AFCON, having defeated them on 9 matches out of 10 previous meetings in the competition.
