CAIRO-15 January 2022: No one would like to be in the shoes of Carlos Queiroz, Egypt national team head coach, at this specific time. The Portuguese coach leads the Pharaohs in a win or die match against Guinea-Bissau on Saturday in Matchday 2 of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
The man who came to Egypt last September with a huge support from the fans in the country is now under threat of losing his job after a disappointing start in the tournament.
Egypt lost 1-0 to Nigeria in the opening game with a disastrous performance and an unconvincing tactical approach from the experienced Portuguese, who is now aware that any further slip could cost him his position.
In the pre-game press conference, Queiroz looked calm and relaxed despite the pressure, revealing that he has full confidence in his squad to overcome the situation.
"We want to play a different game, and I have confidence in my players who played last game. I promise to see a different performance in the second match." The Portuguese coach said.
Egypt will enter the match without the two starting full backs, Akram Tawfik and Ahmed Fattouh, who suffered injuries against Nigeria but he can now rely on the team's midfielder, Amr El Soulia, who returned from injury.
Asked about Mohamed Salah's performance against Nigeria, he said "Mohamed Salah is a player in our team, we win or lose together, and we all share the responsibility. For me the most important is the team."
The game will start at 9:00 PM ( Cairo Time).
