CAIRO-23 December 2021: Al Ahly returned to Cairo in the early hours of Thursday morning after winning the CAF Super Cup title on Wednesday night in Doha.

Al Ahly cemented their dominance over the continent after achieving the eighth CAF Super Cup title in the club's history.

The Red Eagles, who were 1-0 down after 13 minutes, fought back for more than 75 minutes to level the score in the last gasp of the match through Taher Mohamed Taher's beautiful finish, taking the game to penalties.

After six successful penalty kicks from the Red Eagles, Raja Casablanca defender sent the ball over the bar, allowing Al Ahly's goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy and his teammates to start their celebrations with the prestigious title.

"We have to congratulate and thank the players. We practiced penalties during the training sessions before the match. We played against a tough opponent who tried to waste time at the end but we had the spirit to win.” Al Ahly's South African head coach Pitso Mosimane stated after the game.

Al Ahly achieved their fourth continental title under their South African head coach, who only took charge of the team in October 2020.

Egypt became the first nation to win CAF Super Cup titles three times in a row with Zamalek achieving the 2020 edition and back-to-back titles from Al Ahly.
