CAIRO-3 December 2021: Ahmed Hegazi, Egypt national team defender, played down the critics that the team has received following their difficult win over Lebanon in the opening match of the FIFA Arab Cup.
Egypt defeated Lebanon 1-0 after Mohamed Magdy Afsha scored from the spot twenty minutes before the final whistle.
“We needed to start the tournament with a victory. We had a good game against Lebanon and we could have scored more goals.” Hegazi said.
Hegazi and his teammates hope for a better performance when they face Sudan on Saturday as they have a chance to secure a place in the second round if they managed to get the three points in the Nile Valley derby.
Hegazi added “Our performance will improve throughout the competition. We have the character and the experience to deal with the situation. This competition is a great chance for us to create harmony between the players.”
The Egyptian national team takes the FIFA Arab Cup as a proper prelude to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in January in Cameroon, and the 2022 World Cup qualifying play-offs.
