Sports ministry, Olympic committee succeed in cancelling EWF's suspension

CAIRO, Dec 2 (MENA) - In coordination with the National Olympic Committee, the Youth and Sports Ministry has succeeded in cancelling an international suspension of the Egyptian Weightlifting Federation.

"The crisis is now over," the ministry said in a statement Thursday. The EWF received an official e-mail from the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) on cancelling its suspension, according to it.

The Egyptian federation can now participate in sports activities worldwide, it added.

The ministry and the committee paid fines slapped on the Egyptian union, the statement noted.

They are now finalizing required procedures for the Egyptian team's participation in a world weightlifting championship, to be held in Uzbekistan on December 5-15.
