CAIRO-19 November 2021: Magdy Abofrekha, President of the Egyptian Basketball Federation (EBF), revealed that Egypt has everything needed to organize the 2022 FIBA Intercontinental Cup.
Cairo hosts the competition between 11 and 13 February with the participation of Zamalek, the champions of the Basketball Africa League.
“It's an honor to host the FIBA Intercontinental Cup and it's a proud occasion for Egyptian sport and for the Egyptian Basketball Federation," Magdy Abofrekha told FIBA website.
The competition will be played in a four-team format with the participation of Brazil’s Flamengo, Lakeland Magic and Spain’s San Pablo Burgos alongside Zamalek.
Abofrekha added “Organizing this competition is a new step towards proving our ability to once again host global events, as we hosted the FIBA U19 World Cup in 2017 and many other international tournaments. We are looking forward to meeting our friends in Cairo and witnessing an historic event together."
Hassan Mostafa Sports Hall is the first arena in Africa to host the competition, which started 56 years ago.
