CAIRO-6 November 2021: Al Ahly’s head coach, Pitso Mosimane, enjoyed his post-match press conference for the first time in a while as his players managed to defeat Zamalek 5-3 to secure a historic win in the derby.
As Al Ahly fans revealed in their chants after the match that Friday’s victory brings back the memories of the team’s 6-1 win in 2002 over Zamalek in the league and for sure it was the main talking point in the post-match press conference.
“When was that 6-1 victory? In 2002 .. so the good days are back. I would like to thank Al Ahly fans for their constant support to the team. They gave us great energy and motivated us a lot to achieve victory.” Mosimane said after the game.
The Red Devils jumped to the top of the table after their historic win and they are now sharing the top with Pyramids.
Mosimane added “We are a big team. We are the champions of Africa, we are the team number three in the world, we are the CAF Super Cup champions… we are Al Ahly.”
The Red Devils extended their unbeaten run in the derby to four matches as they last lost to Zamalek in August 2020.
