CAIRO-4 September 2021: It is a heady summer in Gezira as the Red Devils added four game-changing signings to their already-strong squad.
One of the best additions to Al Ahly ranks is Luis Miquissone, a young winger from Mozambique who joined the Red Eagles for the next four years from Simba of Tanzania.
“I am so happy to be here. It is a very good feeling to represent a big club like Al Ahly. It is a great experience for me. It is the biggest club in Africa and I am so glad to be here and to be part of this club.” He told the club’s official website.
The player is well-known for Al Ahly fans since Al Ahly’s meeting with his former team, Simba, in Tanzania in the group stage of the last CAF Champions League campaign.
Miquissone believes that his performance in the game made a big role in his move to Al Ahly, saying “It is a great feeling to face big teams like Al Ahly. At that time, I was representing Simba and I was keen to do my best on the pitch. When you face a big team like Al Ahly, you need to give all your best to show that you are a good player and you deserve to play in a big stage.”
The Mozambican winger put in a fantastic performance and scored his team’s winning goal in the game, handing the Red Devils their only loss in the route to achieve their tenth CAF Champions League title.
Miquissone will be reunited with his former coach at Mamelodi Sundowns, Pitso Mosimane, that the winger has much appreciation for since their time in South Africa.
"My experience with him in Mamelodi Sundowns was so good; he made me to be a good player and to be better. The relationship between me and coach Pitso is amazing. When I was a player in Simba, I faced Al Ahly and it was great to see him." Miquissone said.
Besides Miquissone, Al Ahly managed to sign South African winger, Percy Tau, from Brighton and Hove Albion, Hossam Hassan from Smouha and Karim Fouad from Nogoom FC.
