CAIRO-5 August 2021: Egypt men's handball team captain Ahmed El Ahmar believes that is it not over for the Pharaohs despite their failure to reach the final at Tokyo Olympic Games as they still have a chance to win the bronze medal.

"We are disappointed after losing the chance to play for the gold medal. We believe that we were capable of going far in this competition and we managed to improve game by game." El Ahmar said after the game.

Egypt lost to two-time gold medalist France 27-23 in a thrilling semi-final, which witnessed a strong attack from the Egyptian back line but this strong attack was met by a sensational performance from the French goalkeeper.

Ahmed El Ahmar and Yehia Khaled were Egypt's top scorers against France, having scored five goals each.

El Ahmar added "We were unlucky and their goalkeeper had a great game. We reached the semi-finals for the first time in history. We will not throw in the towel and we will fight to win the bronze medal."

France's goalkeeper, Vincent Gerard put in a fantastic performance, having saved more than 18 Egyptian shots to help his team secure victory.

Egypt will face the loser of the other semi-final between Spain and Denmark, which will be played later on Thursday.
