CAIRO-5 August 2021: Egypt men's handball team lost to France 27-23 on Thursday in the semi-finals of the handball competition of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. 
 
Despite having an early lead in the first ten minutes of the game, France managed to return to the game to finish the first half in a 13-13 draw. 
 
In the second half, the European side have the upper hand and the Egyptian defense failed to stop the French attacks. The Egyptians needed more efficient shots while the defense and goalkeepers could not prevent the French backs in the second half. 
 
France's goalkeeper, Vincent Gerard put in a fantastic performance, having saved more than 18 Egyptian shots to help his team secure victory. 
 
Ahmed El Ahmar and Yehia Khaled were Egypt's top scorers against France, having scored five goals each. 
 
Egypt will play for the bronze medal and they still have a chance to win a medal for Egypt at the Olympic Games for the first time in team sports competitions. 
 
France reached the competition's final for the fourth straight tournament and they will face the winner between Spain and Denmark, who will meet later on Thursday.
