Ramadan Sobhy: We did everything to win a medal

CAIRO-31 July 2021: Egypt U-23 national team star Ramadan Sobhy spoke following the team's exit from the Olympic Games in Tokyo. 

 

Like what happened in Egypt's last participation in the Olympic Games in 2012, the Pharaohs failed to go further than the quarter-finals. 

 

"We did everything we can to win a medal but this is football. We will stay together and try to help the senior team win titles in the future." 

 

Ramadan captained the national team in Saturday's 1-0 loss to Brazil in the tournament's quarter-finals. 

 

Sobhy added "I would like to thank the senior players who were a great support for the team during this journey in Tokyo."

 

Egypt lost to the 2016 gold medalists after conceding a goal in the last minutes of the first half by Matheus Cunha, which was enough for the South Americans to reach the semi-finals. 

 

Brazil will face Mexico in the semi-finals after they defeated South Korea 6-3 later on Saturday.
