Egypt's back Yehia El Derea
CAIRO-30 July 2021: Yehia El Derea, Egypt's back, believes that the Pharaohs' win over Sweden on Friday is an important step for the team in the Olympic Games.
Egypt defeated Sweden 27-22 after a sensational performance from the Pharaohs, who reached an important milestone in the journey towards winning a medal.
"It’s a great, great feeling for this generation, for this team. It was a really strong game against a strong team. Thankfully we won but this is not the end. This is just the beginning for a good, great team.” El Derea said after the game.
Egypt will take on Bahrain in the last group stage game and the Pharaohs aim to achieve another victory in the group ahead of the quarter-finals.
El Derea added "We have to prepare. We still have one last game in the group stage and we have to finish it first, and then focus on the quarter-finals and see who we’re going to play against."
Egypt handball participated in the olympic games for the first time in 1992 and the pharaohs' best result in the competition came four years later when we finished sixth.
