File- Egypt handball national team director Ayman Salah
CAIRO-30 July 2021: Ayman Salah, former Egypt national team goalkeeper and the director of the men's handball national team, expressed his happiness following the team's historic victory over Sweden on Friday in the group stage of the Olympic Games.
Egypt reached the quarter-finals after a 27-22 victory over Sweden, achieving Egypt's best ever win over the Scandinavian superpower.
"Today's victory is a great step for us to finish second in the group and face the third-placed team of Group A. Our next target is to advance from the quarter-finals stage and reach the semi-finals for the first time in our history." Salah said after the game.
Egypt handball participated in the Olympic Games for the first time in 1992 and the Pharaohs' best result in the competition came four years later when we finished sixth.
Salah added "The quarter-finals match is the most important game in our history."
Egypt will take on Bahrain in the last group stage game and the Pharaohs aim to achieve another victory in the group ahead of the quarter-finals.
Salah continued "We are taking the tournament step by step. Our ambition has no limits and we want to win a medal and make our people happy."
