CAIRO, 28 July 2021: Omar Assar bid farewell to the Tokyo Olympics competitions from the quarter-finals after losing to China's Ma Long by four sets to one.
 
Ma Long is the 2016 Olympic gold medalist and three-time world champion.
 
The first half of the match ended with a score of 11-7 in favor of Ma Long, who won the second half with a score of 11-9.
 
The Chinese continued their superiority to win the third set, 11-6.
 
Omar Assar managed to reduce the difference after winning the fourth set with a score of 13-11, before Ma Long decided the match in his favor by winning the fifth set with a score of 11-6.
 
Omar Assar is the first Egyptian in the history of the Olympics to reach the quarter-finals in table tennis.
