CAIRO, 28 July 2021: Moataz Ashour, head of the Table Tennis Federation, stressed that the goal in the future would be to compete for an Olympic medal.

Omar Assar succeeded in reaching the quarter-finals of table tennis competitions for the first time in the history of Egypt.

Moataz Ashour, head of the Table Tennis Federation, said in statements to On Time Sports 2: "It is unfortunate for Omar Assar that he faces a player like Ma Long in the quarter-finals.

He showed a very impressive level and managed to beat high-class players within three hours."

He added, "He has put himself in the ranks of the world's strongest champions, there is no big difference between them. He will play a very difficult match."

"I spoke to him and asked him not to put himself under pressure and play in a normal way, and God willing, we will see him play a good match," he added.

And about Dina Musharraf, Moataz Ashour said: "She appeared at a good level and is a great player, in the 35th place in the world. There is no Egyptian or Arab in this position. She played against a great player and started well, but bad luck prevented her from ascending."

Dina Mishref was eliminated from the round of 32 against Brett Ireland, the Netherlands, with a score of 3-4, after advancing at the beginning 3-0.

He added, "In the past, we sought to participate in the Olympics only, but our goal in the future is to compete for an Olympic medal."

Omar will play Ma Long at 1:00 pm on Wednesday in the quarter-finals of table tennis competitions.
