CAIRO-2 July 2021: Abdullah Abdelsalam, Egypt and Al Ahly setter, has announced on Thursday his retirement from international volleyball after more than 15 years of wearing the Egyptian national team jersey.

"My international career is over. I wish the best for the national team in the upcoming challenges." Abdelsalam said on Thursday.

The greatest setter in the Egyptian volleyball history put an end to his career with the Egyptian national team ahead of their participation in a friendly international tournament in Poland, as part of the Pharaohs' preparations for the African Volleyball Championship.

Abdelsalam started his career with the national team after his sensational performance in the Youth World Cup held at home in 2001. Egypt finished the tournament in the fourth position with Abdelsalam winning the best server award.

The 37-year old setter achieved 6 Africa Cup of Nations titles with the Pharaohs and he was part of the team that won the gold medal in 2005 Mediterranean Games in Almeria.
