CAIRO, June 18 (MENA) – Egyptian tennis star Mayar Sherif expressed thanks to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry for its role in supporting her while representing Egypt in major sporting events.
Sherif has posted a photo on her Facebook account of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry while receiving her at the Foreign Ministry headquarters.
"Thank you Mr. Sameh Shoukry, the Egyptian Foreign Minister, for the continuous support to overcome any obstacles…in difficult times; to represent Egypt in major international sporting events. Thank you the Egyptian diplomacy and government," the player wrote.
In February, Sherif lost to Slovenia’s Kaja Juvan (6-3, 6-7, 3-6) in the second round of the Australian Open, despite claiming an early lead. After making history by becoming the first Egyptian player ever to win a main draw game at a Grand Slam, she was eliminated from the second round of competition after a tight, drawn out battle against her Slovenian opponent.
