Bounucci happy after Italy opened Euro 2020 in emphatic style

CAIRO-12 June 2021: Italy national team defender Leonardo Bonucci believes that his team showed everyone that they are ready to fight for the 2020 European Championship title.

Italy opened their participation in the competition in style with a 3-0 win over Turkey after a fantastic attacking display from Roberto Mancini’s men.

“The teams will know us more and more but they know that by playing like this we will be able to put everyone in difficulty. I think Italy will no longer be considered dark horses for the tournament after that showing, and now have to be seriously considered amongst the favourites to be crowned Champions of Europe.” The Italian defender said after the game.

The Italians are back to participate in the big competitions after failing to reach the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Roberto Mancini became in charge of the team since 2018 summer and he improved the team’s performance in different aspects. In the last three years, the Italians moved away from their traditional defensive game to another beautiful attacking style.  

Bonucci added “I feel like there is plenty more to come from this team.”

Italy plays in Group A alongside Turkey, Switzerland and Wales. The Italians will face Switzerland on Wednesday before finishing the group stage against Wales.
