Bilbao players shave heads as Yeray starts Chemotherapy

CAIRO –7 July 2017: Athletic Club players shaved heads to show their support to their teammate Yeray Alvarez who is currently undergoing Chemotherapy.

Showing their support for the 22-year-old central defender, Athletic Bilbao stated on their official Twitter account, “We are with you Yeray.”

“He is a very strong person, we wanted him to feel as comfortable as possible here," Oscar de Marcos, Bilbao midfielder, told reporters in press conference.

De Marcos added, “Not only for Yeray but for all those people who suffer from this disease. Let them see that they have a support here."

Alvarez had surgery in December 2016 after finding a tumor in his right testicle. He returned to play in the Spanish league, becoming a regular player in the Bilbao squad and the Spanish national Under-21(U21) team, after two months of recovery.


A recent cancer relapse has forced Yeray Alvarez to leave the Spanish U21 squad preparing for the U21UEFA EURO Competition in June.
