CAIRO – 6 July 2017: Ending a tough game on Wednesday, Egypt failed to advance to the U19 Basketball World Cup quarterfinals, losing 72-67 against Argentina.

With the support of Egyptian fans in Cairo Stadium, the hosts started the match with a 20-11 lead, ending the first half 39-35. However, Argentina would return to the second half strong and defeat Egypt 72-67.

This comes as a devastating end to their tournament after finishing third in their group with four points gained from the Puerto Rico win followed by losses to Lithuania and Germany.

Mali was destroyed in a one-sided match against the U.S. team 117-69, while France qualified for quarterfinals beating Puerto Rico 84-66. Lithuania did not find any troubles winning 110-63 against South Korea, with Spain also securing a 70-50 victory over Iran.

With mere seconds to spare, Italy won 57-55 over Japan. In a similar match, Germany defeated New Zealand 72-65, while Canada won over Angola 87-65.

The U19 World Basketball quarterfinal matches will be played on Friday with France against Canada, Italy against Lithuania; the U.S. faces Germany and Argentina versus Spain.
