CAIRO-1 May 2021: Al Ahly laid the foundation stone of the club's future stadium on Saturday afternoon at the club's premises in Sheikh Zayed City.
In a mega ceremony, Al Ahly announced the future plans for the club fans' long-awaited dream project of seeing their club having its own stadium.
The ceremony witnessed the presence of Mahmoud El Khatib, Al Ahly’s President, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, Assem El Gazzar, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and New Urban Communities, and Ahmed Rashid, Giza Governor as well as some of the club's icons.
"The stadium will be established on an area that is about 48,000 meters, aside from the other surrounding buildings; such as training grounds and the indoor hall. Also, it is expected to be finished within 5 years and it will have a capacity of 50,000 fans," the club's official website stated.
"We passed a very difficult period. Now, we will start working on achieving the dream of our supporters." El Khatib said during the ceremony.
The Red Devils have been playing their home games at Al Ahly stadium in El Salam City, which they secured for a 25-year lease, as well as the Cairo International Stadium, which witnessed most of the club's achievements in both domestic and African competitions.
