CAIRO-29 April 2021: Al Ahly women's handball team defeated El Shams 34-22 on Wednesday night at Dr. Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall to secure the Egyptian League title.
Al Ahly added the league title to the Egyptian Cup title, which they achieved in March to complete the domestic double.
Al Ahly ladies are back to dominate the domestic scene after losing the Egyptian League and Cup titles last season to El Shams and Alexandria Sporting Club (ASC) respectively.
"Our main target was to win the league title after losing it last season. I am happy with the players' performance throughout the season." Al Ahly head coach Yehia Youssef said after the game.
The Red Devils won their second game in the second final tournament of the league to reach 15 points atop of the table and secure the title ahead of the last game of the tournament, scheduled on Thursday night against ASC.
"We had a fantastic season and we managed to bounce back after losing the league and the Egyptian Cup last season. We had the desire to return to the winning podium this season and make our fans happy." Al Ahly winger Amina Atef told the club's official website after the game.
Al Ahly won the three games of the first final tournament against Zamalek, ASC and El Shams before defeating Zamalek in the opening game of the second final tournament on Tuesday.
Al Ahly and ASC will face off on Thursday night in the last game of the season.
