CAIRO – 22 March 2021: A group of divers and tourists spotted one of the rare Risso’s dolphins on a Hurghada beach during their cruise.
Risso’s dolphins, also known as Grampus, are one of the larger members of the dolphin family.
This type of dolphins’s appearance in off the Red Sea shore is uncommon. Seeing this dolphine in Hurghada has impressed many tourists, who took pictures of it.
Ahmed Ghallab, an environmental researcher specialized in Red Sea reserves, said that Risso’s Dolphin is rarely found near Red Sea beaches, adding “its appearance indicates the biological diversity of the marine environment in the Red Sea.”
The length of these dolphins is approximately 3 meters, and weigh between 50 kg to 300 kg. It is commonly known as the Monk dolphin among Taiwanese fishermen.
