CAIRO – 2 July 2017: The Skype application has received an overhaul that adds new features to the latest version of the popular messaging application. The new Skype 8.0 update is currently available to only Android users but will be developed soon for iOS.
The new app does not look anything like the older version, due to its new colors, animations, shapes and user interface.
According to technology website GSMArena, the new application has three main screen tabs. The main screen in the middle is where users chat, similar to previous versions of the app. The one on the left is called Highlights, which is inspired by the Snapchat stories function and allows users to share short clips of activities from their day. The right hand tab Capture is another Snapchat influence, where users can take pictures and send videos to contacts or publish them in Highlights.
Other updates include the ability to share photos and links from other applications, adding and removing contacts from profiles, improvements in the rendering of video calls, plus the overall improvement of the running functionality of the application itself.
