Swedish ambassador to Egypt participates in Techne Summit 2020 in Alexandria

CAIRO – 5 November 2020: Swedish Ambassador to Egypt Mr. Jan Thesleff will participate in Techne Summit 2020 due to convene on Saturday in Alexandria, the Swedish embassy announced in a statement on Thursday.

 

 The Techne Summit is the biggest international entrepreneurship and technology event to be held in Alexandria. 

 

“This year's summit will take place as a hybrid event, with 10,000 participants expected to attend either physically or through virtual sessions,” the statement read.

 

“For the fourth year in a row, Sweden sponsored a pitching competition during Techne Summit in support of Egyptian entrepreneurs. This year’s competition focused on health-tech start-ups,” the statement added.

 

“Three entrepreneurs will win a fully funded trip to Sweden in 2021 to meet with key actors leading the health tech revolution that the Embassy is organizing together with SweCare foundation and Business Sweden,” the statement continued.

 

On 17 September, 2020, Ambassador Jan Thesleff and Ambassador of Canada to Egypt Mr. Jess Dutton honored ten inspirational Egyptian women change-makers.

 

Sweden’s work in Egypt and the wider region to promote female participation in the economy is extensive and includes both educational training, financial aid and other programs. 

 

The Swedish development cooperation agency (Sida) funds a programme focusing on the social, economic and legal empowerment of Egyptian women, together with Egyptian ministries and authorities, UN agencies and xcivil society actors.
