Minister of Antiquities Khaled al-Anani
CAIRO - 3 February 2020: Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled al-Anani revealed that the ministry will organize evening trips for Egyptian and foreign in cooperation with Misr Travel Company.
The minister told Egypt Today that he suggested that the trips should bear the name "Cairo at Night", and that the guests would be taken on a walking tour in Tahrir Square, with headphones to listen to the tour guide’s explanation of the various sights.
He pointed out that these trips will be enforceable in Tahrir Square after the development process that is currently being implemented, as well as in the Mohamed Ali Castle, old Cairo and Al-Moez Street. He said, "Misr Travel Company promised to study this plan."
Anani offered the company to take advantage of the Egyptian touristic boats and organize trips to Manial, Shubra, Al-Qanatir al-Khayriyah and Helwan. He added, "This kind of cultural excursion is missing in Cairo, despite having the necessary potential."
The minister said that Tahrir Square is witnessing a large development process in preparation for the ceremony of the transport convoy of the royal mummies, and that the government is working to raise the efficiency of the infrastructure in Tahrir Square.
"We have already painted the Tahrir Museum and completely changed its lighting, and we will start the process of painting the editing buildings and lighting them. This is in addition to painting the editing complex, removing all the billboards, establishing benches and erecting an obelisk in Tahrir Square," said the minister.
