CAIRO - 24 January 2020: Egypt was elected to chair the Committee on Tourism and Sustainability (CTS) for two years started from January 2020, while Serbia was elected as the Vice-President of the committee, the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism announced in a statement on Friday.
The current state members at the CTS for (2019-2023) include Algeria, Angola, Bhutan, Croatia, Egypt, El Salvador, Honduras, Philippines, and Serbia.
Egyptian Vice-Minister for Tourism and Antiquities Ghada Shalaby headed the meeting of the committee, which was held on the sidelines of the 40th session of the International Tourism and Travel Fair (FITUR Madrid 2020), the ministry added.
At the meeting, Shalaby tackled the Egyptian tourism vision to achieve the sustainability in light of the UNSDGs, saying that Egypt has started eco hotel initiative since 2017. The number of green start hotels reached 83 ones, she continued.
The vice-minister and head of Egyptian Tourism Agency Ahmed Youssef held a series of meetings at the sidelines of Madrid fair with CEOs of the international tourism companies such as Mundial tour- Elcorte Ingles, TUI Group, TI Comunicações, Piamonte Tour Operador, and Halcon Viajes
It is the first time for Egypt to participate in the FITUR Madrid 2020, which is considered the third largest after the Berlin and London Stock Exchange exhibitions.
The exhibition includes more than 10,000 exhibitors, representing more than 165 countries. The exhibition witnesses a large number of visitors every year, exceeding 300,000 people, and receives media coverage from European and international media.
