CAIRO- 17 January 2020: With the participation of about 270 runners from 20 countries, the 27th round of the International Egyptian Marathon kicked off on Friday in the city of Luxor, Upper Egypt.
The marathon started from the vicinity of the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, Deir el-Bahari, and it is divided into three different categories: a 42 km running race, 22km running race, and 12km race.

The participants will run around the pharaonic temples that are located on the western bank of the Nile river in Luxor. For the first time, three runners with visual impairments participated in the marathon.

The races come under the auspices of Luxor governor Mustafa Alham as it aims at attracting large numbers of tourists ,said governor deuty Mohamed Abdel Qader Kheiry. He added that the city hotels reservation witnessed a high turnout of tourists with 90 percent, which is considered a good indication of the revival of the tourism sector.
The International Egyptian Marathon is the only marathon in Egypt that is certified by the Association of international Marathons and Road Races (AIMS).
