The Hollywood view of Cairo by night from Moqattam Hill – Egypt Today

CAIRO – 15 June 2017: At the edge of the Corniche on the Moqattam’ Mountain (also called Moqattam Hill) sits the viewing platform with cafes offering the view of a million lights.

One could feel on the top of Cairo at any time of the day yet it is the night time that captures with the view like no other and offers the panorama of million lights just like from the famous Hollywood Hills. While sitting under the open sky with the stars above, an ocean of lights spreads below across the city providing for special scenery.

The area of Moqattam used to be famous amongst the bohemian scene of Cairo when “the Black Horse” casino club was a busy night spot and a venue for shooting the movies of the 1950s and 1960s with influential actors like Soad Hosny and Rushdy Abaza.

The area of Moqattam Hill is set nine kilometers from downtown Cairo and can be reached in 15-40 minutes depending on the traffic. While visiting the cafes, it is worth to check the drink prices in order to avoid any surprises. Nonetheless the view is worth it and still costs less than a flight ticket to Hollywood.
