Monthly flights between Egyptian, Moroccan airliners reach 90: official

CAIRO – 24 October 2019: Air traffic between Egypt and Morocco is witnessing a significant boost, as the number of monthly flights between the two countries has reached 90 between the two flag carrier airlines, the regional representative of Royal Air Maroc in Cairo said.

This comes on the sidelines of an initiative launched by Morocco’s Royal Air Maroc with a number of Egyptian tourism companies, to visit a number of Moroccan cities, with the aim of promoting tourism between the two countries.

The regional representative stressed the presence of continuous communication between the Egyptian and Moroccan governments to discuss ideas and ways to facilitate the flow of tourism, and to review all proposals to facilitate obtaining visas and removing obstacles that prevent the activation of cooperation protocols in the field of tourism.

The Royal Air Maroc has been working for three years with the Egyptian tourism companies in order to push forward the Egyptian-Moroccan tourism, the representative said.

He also referred to the partnership between the Royal Air Maroc and Egypt’s national airline EgyptAir, to serve the customers of both airliners, in light of the strong relations between the two countries.

Huge leap

The Central Bank of Egypt earlier in October revealed that tourism revenues increased by $2.7 billion to reach $12.570 billion in FY 2019/2018, compared to $9.804 billion in FY 2017/2018.

A report issued by the World Bank under the title "From Floating to Prosperity" praised the structural reforms, stressing that the financial reforms have paid off and led to a gradual decrease in the fiscal deficit.

Egypt has jumped nine places in the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI) released by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in September.According to the WEF's travel and tourism ranking report, Egypt's tourism sector ranked 65 in the TTCI.

The report showed that Egypt made a huge leap in tourism promotion and marketing strategy.

According to the report, Egypt is the first Middle Eastern and North African country in the field of environmental sustainability and cultural resources. Egypt also showed the best performance in the security and safety index, the report added.

For her part, Tourism Minister Rania el-Mashat said the new ranking in the TTCI comes in culmination of Egypt's efforts to develop the tourism industry, referring to the structural reform program in this regard.
