EgyptAir signs deal with Airbus to buy 27 new aircraft: CEO

CAIRO, Sept 8 (MENA) - EgyptAir company has clinched a deal with European aircraft manufactures Airbus to buy 27 new planes as part of the national carrier's plan to upgrade its fleet by getting state-to-the-art aircraft models, EgyptAir Holding Company Chairman Ahmed Adel said Sunday.

EgyptAir is keen on upgrading its fleet of passenger and commercial aircraft as well as improving services offered to customers, the CEO said during a ceremony held at Cairo International airport to mark the delivery of the first Airbus 220-300 aircraft.

He added that EgyptAir has sealed a deal with the European aircraft manufacturer to get 12 A220-300 planes by May 2020.

Also, a deal was signed with Airbus to buy 15 A320neo aircraft, the first of which to be delivered by mid-2020, Adel noted.

Today's delivery celebration was attended by the French and Canadian ambassadors to Egypt along with a galaxy of civil aviation officials.

Egypt is the first country in the Middle East and North Africa to get the A220-300 aircraft, one of the world's most advanced planes, as part of the EgyptAir strategy for 2025 that seeks upgrading its fleet.

Airbus is glad to take part in upgrading the fleet of EgyptAir till 2025, said Managing Director for Airbus Middle East Fouad Attar.
