CAIRO - 11 July 2019: Egypt was unanimously elected as member of the executive committee of the governors board of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The three-year membership will expire in 2022.

In a statement on Thursday, the Civil Aviation Ministry said Captain Ahmed Adel, head of EgyptAir Holding Company, was chosen by members of the board of the governors for the post.

The election came in recognition of the pioneering role played by EgyptAir in the Middle east and North Africa, the statement added.

This is the first time that one of the leaderships of EgyptAir is chosen in this post.

In earlier statements, Captain Adel expressed happiness for being picked for that post, saying this is a new accomplishment that will be added to EgyptAir and the Egyptian civil aviation sector.

The executive committee is tasked with monitoring the performance of IATA, offering necessary recommendations and directives to IATA chief executive officer and advisory councils and following up policies regulating air cargo industry.

The IATA groups 290 airlines representing 120 countries. Carrying 82% of the world’s air traffic, IATA members include the world’s leading passenger and cargo airlines
