BERLIN, March 4 (MENA) - Egypt's Ambassador in Berlin Badr Abdel Aati stressed the importance of promoting Egyptian tourist destinations in the German market.

In statements to MENA on Monday, the diplomat stressed the importance of promoting cultural tourism, particularly in light of unprecedented archaeological discoveries in 2018 and the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in 2020.

TUI Group, the world's number one tourism business, has recently operated a direct line between Frankfurt and Luxor cities to promote cultural tourism in Egypt, Abdel Aati added.

As for Egypt's participation in the 2019 edition of ITB Berlin, set for Messe Berlin, starting on Wednesday, March 6, he said ITB is a must-attend event for every international expert in the tourism industry.

Last year, nearly 11.346 million tourists spent 121.497 million nights in Egypt, he noted.

According to German sources, Egypt's inbound tourists come from Europe. The number of German tourists, who visited Egypt, is estimated at nearly 1.707 million in 2018.
