Nintendo’s Wii U, released in November 2012, has had a full year to beef up its game offerings, plus it is the only system of the three that is backwards compatible with all Wii games and devices. It’s also the most cost-effective, with a deluxe bundle — including game system, a unique GamePad and a copy of Legend of Zelda’s Wind Waker HD — about $300.The Wii U GamePad is like a small iPad with a camera, microphone, touch screen and stylus. It can act as the primary screen to take your game mobile, as a secondary screen for multi-player games, or as a control for games and the TVii. Xbox One and PS4 have similar tablet-like devices, the SmartGlass and Vita respectively, but they are sold as secondary accessories; Wii U’s GamePad comes as standard.
Add the fact that Wii still allows free online play, and you’re saving a bundle of money to boost your games library. Unlike its counterparts, however, the Wii U is still region locked so don’t plan on globe-trotting with your console or game purchases.
