CAIRO – 2 June 2017: In an attempt to sheldight on a large cultural trend that overwhelmingly disadvantages women, the following comic discusses the “mental over load” on women when they take the full responsibility for a household while sharing their lives with a partner.
Gender roles are changing. However, both genders are still playing the same roles they used to have in the past.
Women still take responsibility for the majority of housework including planning and making sure that the family functions. This leaves women responsible not only for their share of household duties, but also responsible for delegating, organizing, and planing everything.
In these situations, when women see how their partners and children do not notice the things that need to be cleaned, organized, or plan they often say to themselves: It seems that I have a seeing power or smelling power that others do not have! That is why I notice these things!
But of course, she does not!
The French cartoonist
perfectly demonstrate the day to day tasks of women and the concept of the ‘mental load.’ When a man expects his partner to ask him to do things, he is viewing her as the manager of their household chores. It also goes on explaining that partners should step up without being asked or directed.
