CAIRO - 4 October 2018: Today, Egypt’s most talented designers gathered to sit on a judging panel, to decide the final line-up of awards, for this year’s Cairo Design Award. Now in its second year, Cairo Design Award (CDA) is looking to shed further light on Egypt’s most impressive designers. With six categories for judging, including architecture, landscaping, interior design, set design, jewelry design and product design, a panel of elite judges including Azza Fahmy, Amr Helmy, Tarek Naga, Onsi Abou Seif and Karim Mekhtigian sat to agree upon the final line-up of winners to be announced on October 13th.
Cairo Design Award (CDA) first appeared last year, when Mahdy Group established the concept looking to fill a gap in the market by creating a platform designed to shed light on the achievements and successes of both established and up and coming Egyptian designers. The award ceremony will be complemented with a 3-day exhibition, which will be hosted from the 11th to the 13th of October at the Nile Ritz Carlton, where CDA will introduce a new concept to the market known as the design showcase. The idea is to bring designers and manufacturers together to feature 40 unique design spaces, where an entire design concept is built around each featured product.
Talking about the exhibition and award, Hisham Mahdy, Founder of CDA and CEO of Mahdy Group, said, “We are very excited about the potential awards line-up, we have such great design talent in Egypt and we are so proud to be able to highlight the unique talent we have here. We are keen to shed light both locally and internationally on the exceptional work and products that these designers have to offer and a big part of what we are looking to do is support them in developing the international recognition and awareness they deserve. Egypt has an immense pool of design talent and with the right exposure we have a real opportunity to lead the international community in this field.”
In addition to the design showcase, CDA will host a range of workshops hosted by top designers to provide further insight on how to grow design businesses and compete more effectively on the local and international scene. Offering further opportunities to young designers, the showcase will also host a unique exhibition from the Egyptian Fashion and Design Council including ready to wear semi-couture accessories and jewelry from designers such as Temraz
The exhibition will culminate in the much-anticipated Cairo Design Award on October 13th, when Egypt’s most impressive designers will be recognized at an exclusive awards dinner, where leading designers will be recognized for their outstanding achievements in the awards 6 categories.
