The deal gives advertising space to the government's Egypt - Experience & Invest campaign, FIFA added.

“Being an official regional supporter of the 2018 FIFA World Cup gives us an outreach in Africa to highlight and communicate the premium positioning and enormous investment diversity and potential Egypt has to offer,” Sahar Nasr, Egypt’s minister of investment and international cooperation said commenting on the signing.

Egypt’s Minister of Tourism Mashat also affirmed that Egypt - Experience and Invest is willing to use the opportunity of the Egyptian qualification to the World Cup to showcase in a modern way the rich and rewarding diversity of tourism experiences that Egypt offers.

Egypt wants to broadcast World Cup matches

Egypt has said it will "oblige" FIFA to allow it to broadcast 22 matches of the 2018 World Cup which begins in Russia on Thursday, challenging the control of global soccer's governing body over broadcasting rights.

Egypt's Competition Authority (ECA) said FIFA, being the sole organization able to grant broadcasting rights for the World Cup, was in violation of Egyptian freedom of competition laws, the official gazette said on Tuesday.

Egypt's national soccer team is participating in the World Cup for the first time since 1990, and the country is pinning its hopes on Liverpool forward star Mohamed Salah.

Tourism in Egypt

Tourism in Egypt has been picking up recently, with Tourism Minister Mashat saying that the tourism sector is on the way to regain its boom, referring to the increase of reservations in Egypt during the next season.

Tourist nights increased 96.5 percent year-on-year in January 2018, reaching 8.5 million, compared to 4.3 million in January 2017, a report from the state statistics agency CAPMAS said.

The report also showed that the number of departing tourists in January 2018 stood at 771,000, compared to 566,000 in January 2017, increasing by 36.2 percent.

Tourism is one of Egypt’s main foreign currency earners, but it has suffered several blows since the January 25 Revolution of 2011.

Egypt has outranked both the US, UK and the entire African continent when it comes to safety, according to the recently published Gallup Global Law and Order's annual report.

The US and the UK ranked in the 21st and 35th places, respectively, while Egypt ranked as the16th out of 135 countries.
