CAIRO — 9 May 2017: Arab fashion designers presented their latest creations at La Mode a Beyrouth Cairo, which was launched on Monday at the Fairmont Heliopolis hotel. In its second edition, the haute couture event will bring together experts and fashion gurus over five days of runway shows, competitions and special events.
La Mode A Beyrouth Cairo, a franchise of Lebanon’s official fashion week, aims to bring international brands to the local market, and is sponsored by the Egyptian engineer Ahmed Sabbour.
“Egypt has always been the true source of fashion from the very beginning,” Lebanese fashion designer Olfat Mounzer told Egypt Today at the launch. “I would watch old Egyptian movies when I was young to learn how to dress myself. Definitely, Egyptian actress Hind Rostom is still my idol and fashion icon.”
Jumpsuits and frilly dresses dominated the Cairo catwalk, brought to viewers by a mix of established names, high-street labels and young talents. Showcasing their collections were Lebanese designer Hanna Touma, Roberto Cavalli, Versace and Egyptian fashion starlet Farida Temraz.
Touma headlined the show with his fabulous summer haute couture collection, dressing models in colorful, eye-catching dresses.
“I have visited Egypt many times, but this is the first time to display my collection here,” Touma told Egypt Today. “My collection should be called ‘What Women Want’ as it has it all: long dresses, short dresses, wedding dresses and jumpsuits. It is like a suitcase of a girl who is travelling. The suitcase has lots of clothes for every occasion.”
Next up after Touma’s show was the Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli, who wowed the crowd with his Cavalli Class collection.
For the great finale, Italian luxury fashion brand Versace graced the runway with its exceptional 2017 collection which showcases dresses, tops and jackets, green being the color of choice for the summer.
La Mode a Beyrouth Cairo is not only about bringing the world’s top quality fashion to the heart of Cairo, but also to encourage local young talents to launch their own independent shows.
“We want to put Egypt on the fashion map,” Johnny Fadlallah, CEO of L.I.P.S company and the main organizer of the event, told Egypt today. “I believe Egypt has special talents in fashion and I am trying to discover these talents.”
Samantha Fadlallah, L.I.P.S COO, added that La Mode a Beyrouth Cairo is a solid platform that helps young talents to reach a wider audience.
This evening Egyptian fashion designer Farida Temraz will rock the catwalk with her new collection. Stay tuned!
