CAIRO – 9 May 2017: Nothing could be more appealing than a hot, relaxing bath at the end of the day. Many people opt for a shower to rid themselves of negative vibes after a long work day, but what they don’t know is that a hot bath will do them an even bigger favor: burning calories.

A research study at Loughborough University in the U.K. revealed that an hour-long hot bath could help in burning as many calories as a 30-minute walk.

After comparing an hour-long hot shower to other activities such as cycling, researchers discovered that an hour of bathing in hot water, at 40˚C, was more effective at decreasing blood sugar levels than cycling.

They also found that taking a hot bath burned 140 calories, equivalent to a brisk 30-minute walk (or an apple with a tablespoon of peanut butter). While cycling burns 630 calories on average, lying motionless in a bath can burn up to 100 calories.

So don’t forget to include an hour-long hot bath in your daily routine – it could help you burn some 980 calories a week!
