Garemt Akl a restaurant or a prison?

CAIRO - 5 May: Garemt Akl (Food Crime) is a newly opened Egyptian restaurant that serves authentic Egyptian street food. The restaurant decor is designed to feel as if you are in a prison!! Garemet Akl which has opened just few months ago succeeded in a short period of time to draw public attention by its crazy style.

‘’We chose this unique design to be attractive and different,'’ said Ahmed Hamad, one of the restaurant’s owners and the one who chose the name.

Everything in the place whether its interior, menu, serving trays and even the nomenclature used for the sizing of the dishes indicate more and more the feeling that this place is a prison.

Execution is the name of the large order on the menu, a medium sized one is a “life sentence,” while the smallest is named a “misdemeanour.”

Hammad explained that their clients often tell them that they are aware of all the details of the place because they are so catchy.

Despite that the restaurant receive positive feedback on social media, some viewed the idea of the restaurant will hurt the feeling of the prisoners and their families.

Hamad commented on that by saying that none of owners "intend to hurt the feeling of anyone," adding that the whole idea was implemented with high sense of humour to cheer up the restaurant’s guests.
